Welcome to Alameda County Independent Living Skills Program

A program supporting youth transitioning from the foster care or juvenile justice system to independent living.

This site provides information for current, former, and prospective ILSP students, child welfare workers, probation officers, foster parents and other caregivers, advocates, and supporters of youth in foster care or on probation.

20th Annual ILSP Graduation
The 20th Annual ILSP Graduation was held Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Oakland Airport Hilton. Among the many highlights of the evening was the beautiful speech made by ILSP graduate Shanita Talton.  Click here for a copy of her speech.
Emancipated Hearts
Visit the Esteban Sabar Gallery at 480 23rd Street (xTelegraph) in Oakland to view stunning photography created by youth in the ILSP program.  This exhibit is entitled Emancipated Hearts:  What is Family to Me? ILSP students worked with instructor Ross Todd Kerr to create portraits reflecting their thoughts and feelings about the meaning of family.

Beyond Emancipation Teen Health Center
The Beyond Emancipation Teen Health Center has become a MediCal provider.  Services are now available to any teen enrolled in MediCal in Alameda County, whether or not they are in foster care.  The physician is available Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Yoga class on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:00.  Call 261-4102 for more info.   Click here to learn more.

Shanita Talton, 2008 ILSP Grad, will attend UC Berkeley in the fall. Shanita will study Social Welfare, Ethnic Studies, and Administrative Education and is a recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates Millenium Scholarship and a Cal Opportunity Scholarship.

ILSP Computer Classes


To enroll in ILSP Computer Classes, ILSP seniors must sign up with their trainers.  Computer classes will be held at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312
