First time recipients need three things to apply for a Spring 2009 book money grant:
1. Information page (this page has a Beyond Emancipation logo)
2. Record release permission signature page (this page has an ILSP logo)
3. Your Spring 2009 Schedule After you have registered for classes, you need to present a computer-printed copy of your fall class schedule. Print this page off the Web site of the college or accredited vocational school you are attending.
If you received Fall 2008 book money and apply for a Spring 2009 grant: You need to submit your Spring 2009 schedule and a transcript that shows you have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and finished the semester with at least 6 units. If you dropped below 12 units because you dropped some classes, you will receive half the book money you would have received for your GPA if you had 12 units. Remember that you will not get book money if you are taking less than 6 units (or 4 units if you are a DSPS student).
How much book money do I receive?
First time recipients:
If your schedule shows you have enrolled in 12 or more units, you will receive $500.
If your schedule shows you have enrolled in between 6 and 11 units, you will receive $250.
Returning recipients:
Your grant is based on your GPA
If you have completed 12 units in Fall 2008, your next grant will be:
$1,000 if you have a 3.5 GPA or above
$800 if you have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA
$650 if you have a 2.5 to 2.99 GPA
$500 if you have a 2.0 to 2.49 GPA
If your transcript shows that you have between 6 and 11 units, you will earn half of the amount corresponding to what your GPA would have earned with 12 units.
An exception to the unit requirement – If you are enrolled in a DSPS program for learning disabilities, you can earn full book money with 8 units or part-time book money with 4 units.
