Job/Career Development

This module is designed to cover the basics of a job search. The topics it covers are based on sound research and years of experience. It covers the job search techniques that work best and reduce the time it takes to secure employment. Includes information about:

  • Developing job/career interests
  • Obtaining a work permit
  • Job application process
  • Filling out job applications
  • Keeping a job
  • Services provided by the Employment Development Department
  • Placement services within the student's own school

Finances and Budgeting

This module is designed to teach the student how to determine budget goals, total income and expenditures. Includes information about:

  • Understanding and utilizing wages
  • Maintaining and balancing a checkbook
  • Organizing and preparing a budget
  • Banking (nearby locations, pros and cons, etc.)
  • Taxes and payroll deductions
  • Preparing taxes (withholdings and refunds)

This module is designed to help youth in foster care prepare for life on their own. Includes information on:

This module is designed to teach and foster good nutritional habits by presenting a format for discussing issues relating to the youth's current habits and eating patters. It will teach students how to evaluate and obtain adequate health and life insurance. Includes information about:

  • Sexuality and medical services
  • Counseling referral services
  • Substance abuse and rehabilitation
